Welcome to St. Matthew Lutheran Church and Cemetery
Rev. Dr. Samuel Payne is our pastor and spiritual leader here at St Matthew. His guidance and positive force encourages our congregation and youth to be involved with the community while supporting our own church family to enliven our Christian mission.
Our church roots go way back to 1836 when hardy pioneers moved into the area along the Chief Quilna Trail in Shawnee Township. The Church first met and held their first Baptism in a barn once located on the property. St. Matthew's congregation is very proud of its 187+ year history of worship and community outreach in Allen County, Ohio.
Our Mission Statement
The family of St. Matthew, chosen, gathered, and empowered by God’s own Spirit, proclaims by word and action the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Touched by God’s own hand and in response to the love of God, we commit ourselves to:
-Develop Christian Fellowship
-Encourage the use of our unique
God-given gifts
-Provide a ministry of reconciliation
(II Corinthians 5: 18-20) and
healing for our community and world
(Luke 4: 18-19)
Our Vision Statement
1. We want to grow spiritually, individually, and in numbers.
2. The congregation owns the mission and direction of St. Matthews Church.
3. Our congregation will promote small
caring groups.
4. Building Christian relationships will be the foundation of everything we do.
5. We want St. Matthews to be a warm and safe place for people to come to learn about themselves and each other in Jesus Christ.

Cemetery Information
Peaceful and well taken care of Cemetery Burial Lots and Columbarium Niches are available on the church grounds. Check out our photos and call the office for more information.
